Apple decided to open its NFC chip and Secure Element to third-party developers.

This move allows blockchain payment apps to be integrated into iPhones.

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire quickly jumped in and announced plans to introduce tap-and-go payments using USDC on iPhones.

That means we could soon pay with crypto stablecoins as we do with regular cash (fiat money).

My Thoughts

This is huge. My favorite use case in crypto is using NFTs where no secondary marketplace exists.

Imagine a secondary marketplace for airplane tickets or global events that sell out in minutes. You would create a trustworthy marketplace for trading these with no scammers or exploiters.

If Apple doesn’t throw in the towel, we are a mile closer to getting there because both Mastercard and Visa already support crypto — not only crypto but Circle’s USDC.
